Itinerary Colombian Lost City

  • Day 1

    Welcome to Colombia

    Arrive at Cartagena at any time. Take a transfer from the airport to the hostel. If you arrive early, consider walking around some of the most interesting neighborhoods such as the city center, Getsemaní and Bocagrande where you can have lunch, a coffee or a beer. The adventure begins at night so feel free to explore before your welcome meeting, but make sure you’re back in time to meet the group.

  • Day 2

    From Cartagena to Santa Marta

    Following breakfast you will embark on a captivating journey as you depart Cartagena a 5-hour drive to the enchanting city of Santa Marta. In Santa Marta you will have time to explore the city center. As Colombia's oldest surviving city, Santa Marta invites you to explore its colonial architecture, picturesque streets, and charming plazas.

  • Day 3

    Ciudad Perdida Day 1

    Transfer to El Mamey village, here is where the trek to the Lost City begins. You will be trekking through the jungle and indigenous Kogui communities. Lunch will be at the village and then you will hike around 4 hours to the first basecamp. During the trek you will be walking through the jungle and next the Buritaca River. This first day of trekking is a combination of flats and uphills which will prepare you for the following days. The trek for this day will end at Ricardito Camp in which with some luck you will be able to see a breathtaking sunset.

  • Day 4

    Ciudad Perdida Day 2

    The second day of trekking is more demanding than the first one with a lot of steep sections that will amaze you with their views. You will be walking along the Buritaca River, through some farmlands where they grow coffee and raise cattles. As the route progesses uphill from the riverbed to the humid jungle the trek will get more challenging. You will be arriving to the next campsite in the afternoon where you will be able to rest by the river.

  • Day 5

    Ciudad Perdida Day 3

    You will begin the trek of this day very early after a well rested night. This is the day in which you will be arriving to the Lost City. To get there you will need to climb the 1200 steps that were once built by the ancient inhabitants of the place, this will take you around 1 hour of hiking. The climb is steep but the rewards once you reach the Lost City will be worth it. When arriving, you will be guided by a local through the history of this place. You will have around 3 hours to explore it before heading back to camp for lunch and a swim. You will begin your descend on this day.

  • Day 6

    Ciudad Perdida Day 4

    You will depart very early from Mumake Camp and begin the trek downhill. You will be walking through the same path you went up, through the jungle, bananas trees and Kogui communities. You will reach the Cascadas Campsite were you will have lunch and time to rest for the remainder of the day. If weather allows you will be watching one of the most beautiful sunsets.

  • Day 7

    Ciudad Perdida Day 5

    This will be your last day waking up in the middle of the Jungle and coming back to the city. You will be walking through the same paths you walkied on your way to the Lost City but the landscapes won't stop to amaze you. Once finishing the descend you will transfer back to Santa Marta and will have the rest of the day to relax and recharge.
